Pleasant joined the Rams staff in Sean McVay’s first season in 2017 under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. The Rams cornerback coach was a candidate for the defensive coordinator position the last two years after Phillips was let go and Brandon Staley left for the Chargers, but McVay went in another direction both times.
This is the third coach that the Rams have lost this offseason. Staley left to be the head coach of the Chargers while assistant head coach Joe Barry left to join him. The Rams have been a popular choice for teams to poach from since McVay took over. Matt LaFleur left for Tennessee after McVay’s first season while Zac Taylor got a head coaching job with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018.
The Rams defense will look very different next year with a new coaching staff and John Johnson III presumably leaving. Raheem Morris will now have to bring in his own cornerbacks coach after Pleasant received rave reviews from players like Jalen Ramsey after the season.
