We’re officially into the second half of the NFL season. With that said, as the season gets closer to an end, all eyes will be on the playoff picture and which matchups could happen. The Los Angeles Rams will be vying for the NFC’s top seed, but as it stands, they sit in fifth. Every week here at Downtown Rams, we’ll be keeping an eye on the playoff picture and the top games to keep an eye on.

NFC Playoff Picture

1. Green Bay Packers: 7-1

2. Arizona Cardinals: 7-1

3. Dallas Cowboys: 6-1

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 6-2

5. Los Angeles Rams: 7-1

6. New Orleans Saints: 5-2

7. Carolina Panthers: 4-4

Current Matchup: Los Angeles Rams @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

As it currently stands, the Los Angeles Rams would travel to Tampa Bay to play the Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs. Despite the Rams being 7-1, they currently hold the five seed and would play the worst of the division winners. These two teams have played twice over the last two years with the Rams winning both matchups.

Week 9 Matchup: Los Angeles Rams vs. Tennessee Titans

The Los Angeles Rams will host the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 at SoFi stadium on Sunday Night Football. This series is 2-2 since the Super Bowl 34 matchup with the Rams winning in 2017. The Titans are coming off of an emotional game that went to overtime against the Indianapolis Colts on the road. Meanwhile, the Rams starters were off the field in the third quarter after taking a 38-0 lead against the Texans. This will be a good matchup between two playoff teams, despite Derrick Henry being out for the Titans.

Top Week 9 Games to Watch

Green Bay Packers @ Kansas City Chiefs

The Green Bay Packers are winners of seven straight after a Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Because of that, this team currently holds the top spot in the NFC. However, they’ll be without Aaron Rodgers on Sunday. The Chiefs are in need of a win and the Los Angeles on the playoff picture and which matchups could happen. Rams could really use a Packers loss if they are in position for the NFC’s number one seed at the end of the season. The Packers can still win with Jordan Love with how bad the Chiefs defense is, but it’ll be much more difficult without Rodgers. Depending on how the seeding shakes out, this could be a lucky break for the Rams.

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers

It’s always tough to decide which division opponent to cheer for. On one hand, the Arizona Cardinals are above the Los Angeles Rams. On the other hand, a win against the Cardinals could give the 49ers some momentum heading into next week’s clash with the Rams. The Cardinals beat the 49ers 17-10 in Week 5. It was Trey Lance‘s first start and he barely completed 50% of his passes. Jimmy Garroppolo could give the 49ers a better chance to win at home which at the end of the day, would benefit the Rams in the long run.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints

The Saints will play their first game without Jameis Winston on Sunday. As the current six seed, the Saints will be battling the Los Angeles Rams for the top wild card spot. At home, even without Winston, the Saints should be able to come out with a win. The Falcons have the 26th rated offense via DVOA while the Saints defense ranks third.

New England Patriots @ Carolina Panthers

The Panthers currently hold the final wild card spot, but are trending down. After starting 3-0, the have lost four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Patriots are starting to find their rhythm offensively with Mac Jones under center. The Panthers may hold the final wild card spot, but that might not be the case for long. The Patriots defense will give Sam Darnold all he can handle.

Minnesota Vikings @ Baltimore Ravens

The Minnesota Vikings are another team fighting for the seventh playoff spot in the NFC. This is also a team that the Rams will face later in the season. The Rams would likely need to earn the second seed by season’s end to face the Vikings in the playoffs, but they’ll be a team to keep an eye on in the upcoming weeks.
