The Los Angeles Rams were on bye in Week 11. It was a much needed break after such a grueling last couple of weeks. With back-to-back losses to the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers, the devastating season ending injury to wide receiver Robert Woods, and the introduction of new faces in Odell Beckham Jr and Von Miller — the Rams have been busy in the news as of late.
The trend of difficulties for the Rams would seem continuous. This week they are heading to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers. The Packers remain one of the best teams in the NFC after the two teams faced off in the playoffs last season.
When it comes to drama, the Packers are also enduring their fair share. The news surrounding Aaron Rodgers has become polarizing. The quarterback has become the focal point of football this season, and not in particularly virtuous fashion.
However, the biggest issue for the Packers this season is the offensive line. The Packers have been missing All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari all season as he recovers from injury. This prompted the Packers to move Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins to left tackle. This move had paid huge dividends for the Packers, but like Bakhtiari, Jenkins just tore his ACL, and is now out for the season.
With the Packers already without starting running back Aaron Jones, and now Rodgers dealing with a lingering toe injury, it seems that the injury bug is hitting the Packers hard. It’s not always necessarily who you play, but when you play them. With Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd, and Von Miller, the Los Angeles Rams should have the advantage in this matchup. Lambeau Field always presents a challenge, but the Rams might’ve caught an unfortunate break.
Von Miller paired with Leonard Floyd and Aaron Donald should drive fear into Rodgers. The quarterback will be heading into this game banged up, and with a third-string left tackle. Now is certainly the time to strike on the Packers who may be trending down.
It is never gratifying to beat a team when they are not at full strength, but injuries occur, and a win in this matchup will be huge for the Los Angeles Rams as they are in a continuous battle to upend the NFC West leaders in the Arizona Cardinals. As things currently stand, the Rams own the top wild card spot. They would have to travel away from Los Angeles to face off against their first-round playoff opponent, a position that no team wants to be in.
A win in Green Bay would ensue some much needed confidence. Additionally, it would also put the Los Angeles Rams in a much better position to take the divisional lead. It’s worth noting that the Cardinals lost to the Packers earlier this season.
A Packers team that has Rodgers and star wideout Davante Adams on its roster is always a scary thought. Those two will always pose a problem. The Packers defense is also a solid unit, that could also pose issues for a Rams offensive line that has provided its own share of failures this season. With the injuries and problems facing both teams, it should be an interesting matchup. The Sunday afternoon contest will be one in which all football fans should keep an eye on.
