Fantasy Football: Gainwell, Mooney, Knox lead Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds

Hopefully, you’ve been staying on course and plucking a name or two off the fantasy football waiver wire (IF needed) over the past month. The hits continue to mount up and some familiar faces once again are seen on the weekly list. There’s controversy stewing in Philadelphia and more injuries open up opportunities for veteran backups at the running back position. At wide receiver, we see a breakout we’ve been waiting for and there’s a new TE1 in Dallas.

Here are the players you should be considering during your weekly waiver wire run in fantasy football based on at least 60% availability. I also include adds for those in deeper league formats. Running Back

Kenneth Gainwell – Philadelphia Eagles

75% availability on ESPN
70% availability on Yahoo

I’ve talked about Gainwell back in Week 2 and he’s continuing to gain fantasy football momentum (much to my chagrin as a Miles Sanders truther). The rookie only saw 39% of the team’s snaps but outproduced Sanders. Gainwell has clearly carved out a solid role in this offense.

Damien Williams – Chicago Bears

90% availability on ESPN
92% availability on Yahoo

The running back injuries continued in Week 4 as David Montgomery left the Bears game early. We won’t know if Montgomery avoided the dreaded ACL tear until Wednesday (after waivers clear). Williams also suffered an injury but reports are that it is not serious.

Samaje Perine – Cincinnatti Bengals

98% availability on ESPN
98% availability on Yahoo

Death, taxes, and Mixon injuries. Although Joe Mixon has been the clear workhorse in the Bengals offense, Perine is primed to step into a lead role. I would also take a look at Chris Evans who could be a sneaky sleeper in PPR fantasy football leagues.

Alex Collins – Seattle Seahawks

100% availability on ESPN
99% availability on Yahoo

I’m not a fan of Collins. However, it is a little concerning that Pete Carroll is giving up Carson’s touches to a below-replacement level player.

Wide Receiver

Darnell Mooney – Chicago Bears

60% availability on ESPN
62% availability on Yahoo

To the moon. That’s where the second year WR’s trajectory is headed. We’ve known about his game-breaking ability and Fields likely has taken control of the offense. If Fields can play consistently, Mooney’s ceiling is limitless.

Jamison Crowder – New York Jets

85% availability on ESPN
80% availability on Yahoo

Crowder made his season debut and instantly connected with Zach Wilson in the slot. The rookie quarterback targeted Crowder nine times, which oozes value in PPR fantasy football leagues. Without a trustworthy tight end, look for Wilson to continue to look to the veteran wide receiver as his safety blanket.

Tight End

Hunter Henry – New England Patriots

64% availability on ESPN
58% availability on Yahoo

Henry has now seen 15 targets across his last 3 games. The ceiling is capped with Jonnu Smith around but Henry is still getting more playing time than his counterpart.

Dalton Schultz – Dallas Cowboys

78% availability on ESPN
66% availability on Yahoo

Another player I mentioned back after Week 1, Schultz remains an add. Prescott has developed a strong connection with Schultz and the dividends are coming in. Jarwin is also droppable.

Dawson Knox – Buffalo Bills

80% availability on ESPN
67% availability on Yahoo

It’s too late to get Knox on the low but he’s still the cheapest route to points in the Buffalo offense.
