Strengths

Great first step length. Great strength for rips and bull rushes. Very explosive. Extremely high motor. Fluid mover with good change of direction. Great bend, doesn’t lose speed off the edge. Brings a true pass rush arsenal, including a killer swim move. Can use his shorter arms to an advantage, getting around long armed blockers. Legitimate chase down speed. Great wrap up tackler. Moves well laterally across the line to blow up run plays.

Weaknesses

Slight false step off back foot when coming off the ball. Very undersized arm length. Can get sucked into committing on play action. Gets driven away from the play at times when trying to go underneath blockers. Could use more weight.

Summary

Hutchinson was considered a mid first rounder to early second coming into the season, but following a Heisman finalist campaign, he’s now a shoo-in to be a top 5 pick. He’s an elite pass rusher who brings strength, speed, and great moves. He’s also a very good run defender on the edge who can move laterally. The Heisman finalist is a reliable tackler and can easily end up getting you 11 sacks a year consistently, and poke numbers above that as well. He’s an instant gamechanger on defense and could be the best defender on any of the teams picking early.
