The Los Angeles Rams have officially ruled out second-round rookie Cam Akers for this weekend’s game in Buffalo. It is uncertain whether or not Raymond Calais will be activated in this game but the Rams are expected to go with Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown as the go-to backs. Undrafted rookie free agent Xavier Jones is expected to fill in as the third-string running back in Akers’ absence.
Last week, the Rams saw a more comfortable back in Akers who helped lead the Rams down the field with little resistance to start the game. Right around the goal line, Akers suffered a rib injury and knocked him out of the game. Following his injury, Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson grabbed hold of the carries and were both very efficient. Henderson, who had 12 carries for 81 yards had the first true breakout game of his career. The Rams will look to lean on Henderson out of the backfield as a runner and pass catcher while throwing the Bills as off-balanced as the Eagles were last week.
As for Akers, it’s uncertain if he ends up on injured reserve or not but at this time there’s no point in risking your second-round pick when you are as deep as any team at running back.
