The Rams have waived a handful of players this week since the conclusion of mini-camp. Today the team announced on the official website that Brian Randolph has been waived.
This one hits hard for me personally as someone who really was pulling for Randolph and has been in touch with him since training camp last year. Randolph went through the grueling recovery after he tore his ACL on week one of the preseason. He was making strides on the field, but apparently the Rams are deciding to move on from him.
With the Rams drafting John Johnson in the third-round of this year’s draft it appeared that the young former Tennessee safety would be in for a battle. Now, it remains to be seen who the Rams will keep and why they decided to let go of five players to get their roster down to 85. Are they trying to shed space for another player? Are they planning on checking out five others? Or are they completely okay with having only 85 on the roster? That remains to be seen, but still, a big blow for me personally on Randolph.
The Rams add Randolph to the list of LB Teidrick Smith, LB Reggie Northrup, C Demetrius Rhaney and WR Marquez North who also spent last season on the injured reserve list with Randolph.
