Despite numerous reports that the team was listening to trade offers for CB Trumaine Johnson this offseason, it appears that the team would rather keep him (per Ian Rappaport) and strike a new deal before the July 15 deadline to avoid paying him his second franchise tag in a row, that would have a cost of $16.7 Million in 2017, making him the highest paid CB in the game.
The news come less than a month after the players reported for the first time this offseason with the team (Voluntary Camp).
Tru had a fantastic 2015 season with 7 interceptions, 17 passes defended that helped him surpass Janoris Jenkins in the battle for the spot, but last year, Johnson’s game took a hit, having just 1 interception and 11 passes defended, and leaving the Rams with more questions than answers.
New defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’s scheme should help Trumaine Johnson to bring his A-game back, if not, he will likely have a new home for the 2018 season.
