Gary Weed's Mock Draft 3.0

So the combine is over and free agency has begun and we are 7 weeks away from the NFL draft. The Rams still have a few questions to answer prior to draft day but it seems pretty clear the direction new coach Sean McVay wants to go. He wants playmakers on both of the ball from this draft. And I intend to give him those playmakers!

Round 2 (#37)- Adoree’ Jackson  CB   Southern Cal

There may very well be even higher rated CBs that fall to the Rams here (Marlon Humphrey or Tre’Davious White come to mind) but regardless CB should be the pick here. All 3 guys I mentioned are the type of CB Son of Bum likes and will do very well in LA.

Round 3 (#69)- Zay Jones WR ECU

Nothing really needs to be said other than 6’1″, 195, 4.46 40 and oh yeah, NCAA all time leader in receptions with 399. Great route runner and plays bigger than his actual size. Perfect fit for McVays offense.  If a trade of Trumaine Johnson happens for say a 2nd round pick, then I grab Zay in the 2nd and maybe grab a another CB or S in the 3rd. This draft is LOADED with star defensive backs.

Round 4 (#112)- Elijah Lee OLB Kansas St.

6’3, 230 LB  OLB that lead the Wildcats in tackles and tackles for loss each of the last 2 seasons. Great in coverage as evidence by his 7 interceptions in  3 seasons. Another big physical guy that can cover. Perfect for Son of Bum. It will be a very interesting competition between a guy like Lee and Josh Forrest for that 2nd OLB spot in the new 3-4.

Round 4 (#141) – Lorenzo Jerome, S St Francis (PA)

Everyone knows I have been clamoring for this kid since his showing at the Senior Bowl. Will be versatile because not only can he play both safety spots and CB, he returns kicks and punts. Exactly what this team needs…versatility

Round 5 (#149)- Jon Toth C Kentucky

McVay said he wants to cross train his interior linemen. This bodes well for the 6’5″ 300 pounder from UK as he played C and both OG positions during his time a UK.

Round 6 (#191)- Deatrich Wise Jr , DE Arkansas

Mountain of a man who is still fast enough to play standing up even at 6’6″ 270. Long arms, HUGE hands. Still has work to do but can learn from a few of the best with the Rams.

Round 6 (#206)- Jamaal Williams RB BYU

6’0″ 200 pounds, over 3900 yards rushing at BYU. Averaged over 5 yards a carry. Also a very good blocker and and can catch the ball out of the backfield. Perfect compliment to TG30

Round 7 (#225) – Fred Ross, WR Mississippi St

6’2″ 205 LB  WR  who had 200 catches in 3 full seasons at MSU with 2 1000 yard seasons and averaged over 12 yards per reception. Another big physical guy who plays bigger than he is.
