ESPN reporter predicts Lions to win big against the Rams

Alden Gonzales, the ESPN reporter that covers the Los Angeles Rams, has predicted that the Detroit Lions will beat the Rams by the final score of 28-20.  Interesting enough, in Gonzales latest article, he mentioned that the Rams offense isn’t very good, so the Rams need their defense to carry a heavy load. Also to include, that their defense is banged up right now.

Gonzales, also mentioned that Tru Johnson, has a sprained right ankle and is out, and three starting defensive linemen, Robert Quinn, Michael Brockers and Will Hayes, are questionable to play. With a depleted defensive line and a limited secondary, on the road against a team that thrives off of throwing the ball downfield, doesn’t look good.

Countering Gonzales prediction, it’s my opinion that he may have prematurely sold the Rams short this Sunday.  The Lions also have their share of injuries on Sunday too. Several of their key starters, has already been ruled out for Sunday’s contest. The Lions will not have the services from their starting defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (shoulder), ) starting outside-linebacker DeAndre Levy (knee/quad), starting running back Theo Riddick (bad ankle) and starting tight end Eric Ebron (knee/ankle), all whom been ruled out.

Last December, the Lions arriverd to St.Louis being heavily favored over the Rams. However, the Rams defense took to the challenge by locking down the Lions number one receiver, Calvin Johnson the entire contest , holding him to just a single reception for 16 yards. Tru Johnson blanketed Johnson the entire game, also managed to grab an interception and return it for a touchdown for 58 yards. That interception was Johnsons seventh of the season and 13 of his career. Needless to say, Johnson was injured last week at home against the Bills and has been ruled out by the Rams Medical Staff.

The running back trio of Amer Abdullah placed on the IR, Joique Bell, now with the Chicago Bears, and Theo Riddick out with bad ankle, imposed problems for the Rams defense last contest. The Lions has recently signed Justin Forsett, who played for the Ravens last season, but his season was cut short after suffering a devastating break to his forearm to these same exact Rams defense.

Rookie running back Dwayne Washington whom is also listed as questionable for Sunday, can’t go, then Forsett will receive the bulk of the carries with Zach Zenner giving him a breather. If this is the case, and Forsett can’t establish a run game, then it will be a long day in the office for Stafford.

The Rams defense will need to figure a solution on containing Golden Tate, whom burnt the Rams twice for touchdowns last season, and first year veteran receiver Anquan Bolden, whom always played tough against the Rams. But, expect Aaron Donald have a huge game playing with a chip on his shoulder.

Gonzales may have spoke too son on his prediction, and have the Rams a plus eight, display no respect to the organization, and they will have a lot to prove come Sunday. The las injury report listed by the Rams that all players with an exception to William Hayes looks to be good to go on Sunday. Rams win 34-30 in a shootout on Sunday.
