For week six of the NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams will travel to Detroit to take on the Lions in a game that is a repeat of last years battle in which the Rams won on the back of Todd Gurley. As we do every week, we will look at some of the best fantasy options coming from this game and highlight who to use and who to stay away from.
Matt Stafford – QB – Fanduel 8000 – Draft Kings 6200
The Lions quarterback is one of the more polarizing quarterbacks in recent memory but this season Stafford has looked more mobile and has been more safe with the football. The only downside to this week for Stafford is he is missing multiple weapons on offense as well as parts of his offensive line. These include TE Eric Ebron, RB Theo Riddick, and possibly both of his starting guards. Ebron is Stafford’s go to end zone target while Riddick is his safety net that has accumulated 26 catches on the season already. Possibly the most glaring injuries could be there starting guards who will be faced with dealing with all-pro Aaron Donald. The Rams do however have a missing corner of their own in Trumaine Johnson. Stafford could be a great play this week or a very bad one as he has a very high ceiling and a very low floor. With so many other quarterbacks with good matchups and his relatively high cost in daily, I would personally stay away but that is guessing that at least one of the Rams starting defensive lineman join Donald in this game.
Theo Riddick – RB – Fanduel 6600 – Draft Kings 5300
As I stated above, Riddick is out this game so obviously don’t play the safe Riddick. However, with the news of Riddick being out that elevates Justin Forsett into playable status due to the lack of other options for the Lions. Forsett is playable in only Fanduel and cost a measly 4900 making him a good punt play. He should see around 10 to 15 carries and more than five targets in the passing game. In league play, stay away unless it’s announced that the Rams will lose all their defensive line for another week however.
Marvin Jones – WR – Fanduel 7700 – Draft Kings 7200
The league’s leading receiver got lucky this week when it was announced that Trumaine Johnson would be out this week. With the lack of a running back I expect Stafford to throw the ball around 40 for 50 times this game and, with Ebron out and Riddick out, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jones gets upwards of 20 targets. If Stafford goes off, so will Jones this week and with questions across the Rams secondary and front four, it could be highly possible. His price is reasonable on daily fantasy and for league play I would play him not wanting to miss out if he lights up the scoreboard for another week.
Lions – DEF – Fanduel 4500 – Draft Kings 3000
Typically I would never play the Lions defense but with the possible return of Ziggy Ansah and the pick six throwing ability of Keenum this may be the week that you should. I expect the Rams to feed Gurley a ton this week but if the Lions are able to get good lead, it could force Keenum into throwing more than he should which in turn could lead to more interceptions which he has become prone to throwing. The Lions are a great punt play for daily fantasy and I’m still torn on streaming them for league play.
Case Keenum – QB – Fanduel 6500 – Draft Kings 5000
Never would I recommend starting Case Keenum in fantasy in any format but with the injuries on the defensive side for the Lions you may be able to punt play the quarterback position this week. Which I do not recommend but tread at your own peril. Once again, I’m not recommending you play Keenum, nor will I at any point this season or ever. I repeat, ever…
Todd Gurley – RB – Fanduel 7900 – Draft Kings 6700
Todd Gurley has become an average fantasy play up to this point, in part due to the play of the man named above him. This week should be his best matchup so far and I for one don’t want to miss out on a monster game from Gurley. With the return of Benny Cunningham I do not expect quiet as many pass catching opportunities as in previous weeks but with the Lions missing Ngata and Levy for another week, I expect him to run all over this defense. If the Rams can stay in the game and not allow the Lions to get a sizable lead, then Gurley could see near 30 carries and multiple touchdowns. His price has dropped on daily fantasy and has become a good value play each week at this point. This is a team Gurley shredded last year and here’s to hoping he does it again.
Tavon Austin – WR – Fanduel 5700 – Draft Kings 3900
Tavon Austin has up and down performances and was heavily involved last week in the offensive gameplan. If that continues this week, Austin could have a good day against a team that has been attacked in the middle of the field all year due to injuries to their linebackers. Austin is a great punt play this week in daily allowing you to use cash on big name players while also having a super high ceiling. However, if you played Gurley I would go someplace else but if you don’t play Gurley, play Austin hoping he turns in a multi-score game and gets his fair share of targets. Both seem likely this week.
Rams – DEF – Fanduel 4600 – Draft Kings 2900
The Rams defense is a curious one but with so many injuries to starting players this may be a week to stream another defense. If the starters on the defensive line return this week it could be a solid outing for this defense but with their uncertainty and with the loss of Johnson at CB this is a risky play and one I tread carefully on. However, they do have a super low price in daily fantasy so if you expect good things, at least that expectation will come cheap.
