The Rams in the wake of CB Trumaine Johnson’s injury have acquired CB Dwayne Gratz from waivers according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
This move comes as no surprise since the Rams just cut Coty Sensabaugh and Johnson’s injury left the Rams with three Cornerbacks on their roster. Gratz is only 26-years old and is in the final year of his rookie deal. He’s a former third-round pick who stands at 5-foot-11 and 199 pounds and has played some solid time at the corner position.
Gratz is a hard hitting player that tries to break up passes rather than going all in for the game-breaking play. He isn’t going to get burned as bad as Sensabaugh did, he is speedy with his 4.4 40 time, he was the leading performer at the combine back in 2013 for CB’s in the bench press workout and he has a 38 inch vertical.
We have seen before the Rams take a guy who seems like a bust and revitalizes their career. Gratz could be in the right situation especially with the defense he joins and if Johnson ends up being sidelined for a significant amount of time. Gratz was cut due to the log-jam of CB’s in Jacksonville (Jalen Ramsey, Prince Amukamara, Davon House & Aaron Colvin). It’s worth noting Gratz is the no.38 overall CB per Pro Football Focus grading. Gratz could end up being a steal for the Rams.
