The Los Angeles Rams play their second game of the preseason Saturday night on national television once again at the L.A. Coliseum, this time against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last week the Rams escaped with a 28-24 come from behind win over the Dallas Cowboys. Sean Mannion lead the comeback throwing three touchdown passes, the game winner to rookie Aaron Green.
The Chiefs meanwhile fell just just short to the Seattle Seahawks in heartbreaking fashion. Leading 16-9 with just second left, the Seahawks caught a hail-mary that was thrown by Trevon Boykin from Kansas City’s 37-yard line. Instead of kicking the extra point to go to overtime, Seattle converted a two-point conversion to win the game in regulation.
In a game that would normally be played for the Governor’s Cup, will no longer as the Rams are not in the state of Missouri. However, this matchup does not come without its storylines.
First and most importantly, this will be Nick Foles’ return to the Rams after the team cut him just a few weeks ago. Foles was in turn signed by his former coach in Philadelphia, Andy Reid to presumably back up Alex Smith.
In terms of current Rams quarterbacks, Jared Goff will be getting his first look with the first team offense. He won’t start, but he’s going to get some much important time with the other starters.
However, this game isn’t all about the quarterbacks. E.J. Gaines will be getting his first game action since being injured last year and the Rams desperately need him as they are thin at the cornerback position.
Teams also start making cuts next week which means that some of the guys on the roster bubble such as a Duke Williams will need to step up and have a big game to impress the coaches.
It may only be a preseason game, but there are plenty of reasons to watch this one.
