Back on the first of August it was announced that Rob Havenstein would go on the physically unable to perform list but we weren’t given the real answer as to why.
It turns out big Rob has a broken toe which he suffered during camp according to Ventura County star’s Joe Curley via twitter. This of course is a way bigger deal than a “foot issue” as first reported. With this injury it could be the full preseason for Havenstein to come back from or maybe even longer depending on the severity.
In relief for Havenstein, the former 2010 second-round pick Rodger Saffold has been manning the right tackle spot, a position he was in charge of when the Rams signed former pro-bowler Jake Long as the left tackle. With Saffold moving over to right tackle, the former sixth-round guard out of Fresno State — Cody Wichmann has flown up into the starting lineup to take over Saffold’s usual slot.
Lance Zierlein actually was raving about Havenstein earlier in camp and talked about how he felt Havenstein was the best offensive lineman on the Rams. Lets just hope this injury doesn’t set him back because he didn’t allow a sack last season and was stellar as a blocker that opened up holes for no. 30.
