For the last two years now everyone has seemed to have a perfect comparison for Rams DT Aaron Donald and before you ask, yes he is human. Warren Sapp has been that comparison by NFL Network, fans and draft scouts alike but does Sapp agree with that?

I had the pleasure of being able to ask Sapp what he thought about the popular comparison during a Q and A thread on the RamsOnDemand forums. Here is what he had to say.

“I think Aaron is the closest player to me in the game today…”

The Buccaneers legend was an explosive game wrecking player just like Donald but, it is special that a player like that thinks Donald is the closest player to him in today’s game. The reason is because there are others that are great such as J.J. Watt of the Texans, Fletcher Cox of the Eagles, Ndamukong Suh of the Dolphins, Geno Atkins of the Bengals to name a few. The great thing is Sapp views Donald as closer to his level than those guys.

There is no doubt Donald has taken over a Rams defense that was led by DE Robert Quinn for a bit. Donald is on a fast track to become possibly the greatest defensive lineman of all time. Sapp clearly sees just that with no. 99. If you are a Rams fan you can thank your lucky stars that the Lions picked Eric Ebron and not the two-time pro bowler Donald.
